§ CFD

Simulation type per flight state.

Hover, climb and cruise can be ordered as steady calculations. If the inflow is not parallel to the axis, the steady calculation is an approximation. In that case, the time-resolved simulation, which builds on the steady solution, is recommended.

SCENARIO STEADY (RANS) UNSTEADY (URANS) · ON REQUEST NOTE
Hover V = 0 ● recommended ◐ optional Standard case for the steady calculation; unsteady where needed for fluctuating quantities and acoustics.
Climb axial inflow ● recommended ◐ optional Standard case for the steady calculation; unsteady where needed for fluctuating quantities and acoustics.
Cruise Inflow oblique to the axis, rotor tilted ◐ possible ● recommended The inflow to the rotor blade changes during every revolution; a steady calculation is therefore an approximation, and the unsteady calculation is recommended.
Oblique inflow, crosswind ○ not suitable on request The specification is agreed with you.
Descent incl. vortex ring state ○ not suitable on request Highly unsteady; effort depends on the question.

As the computing effort depends strongly on diameter, rotational speed and scenario, you receive a binding quotation in advance. The calculation builds on the steady solution and additionally provides time histories, fluctuating quantities and an acoustic evaluation.

§ FEM

Strength and vibration behaviour.

The structural analysis can be ordered independently of the CFD. On request, the calculated pressure distribution from the CFD analysis is applied directly as the load, so that no simplified load assumptions are needed.

Questions about pricing

Why is the 1D design free?
The free design lets you test and evaluate PropLab on your own application before any costs arise. Charges apply only to services that involve a finished model or engineering work. The only requirement is a free user account. To keep computing times short for all users, two calculations per day are free, and further calculations are possible with tokens. The 1D design is a preliminary design and is not suitable for part release.
Why is the unsteady calculation recommended for cruise?
In cruise, the rotor disc is tilted and the flow approaches it at an angle. The inflow to each blade therefore changes over the revolution: the advancing blade sees a higher, the retreating blade a lower inflow velocity. A steady calculation can only reproduce this variation as an average. The time-resolved (unsteady) calculation reliably captures the alternating loads on the blade and the power. The steady solution is included, and the unsteady run builds on it. You receive the price in advance as a quotation.
Why is there no fixed price for unsteady calculations?
The computing effort varies considerably with diameter, rotational speed and scenario. A flat price would therefore either be too high for small propellers or fail to cover the costs for large ones. Instead, you receive a binding quotation before work begins.
When does work begin?
After your order, we check the details and send you the order confirmation within five working days, and work begins with it. If you order as a consumer, we only begin before the 14-day withdrawal period has expired if you agree to this when ordering. You receive the invoice together with the results.
What is an operating point?
An operating point is a combination of flight speed, rotational speed and air state. Further operating points of the same geometry reuse the existing mesh and are therefore cheaper.
Can I order CFD and FEM separately?
Yes, each service can be ordered separately, and the CAD model is included with every CFD or FEM order. On request, the flow loads from the CFD are transferred directly to the structural analysis.

Our 1D design is free of charge. You decide on further services once you have seen the result.
